Tarpaulins and Pit Liners
Tarpaulins (tarps) and string reinforced fabrics have been the primary fabric used for inexpensive temporary containment applications. These fabrics are ideal for short-term storage of inert liquids, as well as for covering and enclosure applications where tear strength is desired. They are not appropriate in chemical resistant applications nor in long-term storage situations. These membranes are hot air seamed in factory settings and can be fabricated into large panels up to 40 to 50 thousand square foot panels. They are manufactured in mil thicknesses from 5 mils to 35 mils, the most common being 12, 14 16 & 20 mils of thickness. Field seaming is most effectively done by sewing or taping together prefabricated panels and are acceptable in covering applications only. They are not easily repaired in the field back to water tight status. Materials are UV stable and wind resistance is low.
